St. Patrick
was born in Wales in the fifth century. His original name was Maewyn Succat.
When he was 16 he was captured by Irish pirates and forced to work with animals
as a slave.
After six
years he escaped back to his homeland and then became a priest. He studied in
France and eventually became a bishop.
One night he
had a dream where God told him to return to Ireland and teach them about Christianity.
He used the shamrock to symbolize the Holy Trinity.
Many people
believed that St. Patrick drove all the snakes out of Ireland. Nowadays people think
that snakes were a metaphor for paganism.
Saint
Patrick's Day is now celebrated all over the world on March 17, the day he died.
So don´t forget to wear something green on St. Patrick's Day and help Ireland
celebrate their patron Saint.

de seis años escapó de vuelta a su tierra natal y luego se convirtió en cura.
Estudió en Francia y llegó a ser obispo.
Una
noche tuvo un sueño en el que Dios le decía que volviera a Irlanda y les
enseñara sobre el cristianismo. Usó el trébol para simbolizar la sagrada
trinidad.
Mucha
gente creía que San Patricio echó a todas las serpientes de Irlanda. Hoy en día
se piensa que las serpientes eran una metáfora de los paganos.
